Team Up’s Amanda Wong Makes 2012 Forty Under Forty by Puget Sound Business Journal

This summer our very own Amanda Wong, long-time volunteer and Board member, was honored with the 2012 Forty Under Forty by the Puget Sound Business Journal.  In its fourteenth year and with over 520 past nominees, the PSBJ has combed through more than 400 nominations this year; in search of individuals who carry accomplishments within their community and career.  Amanda was honored under her title as President of Onza Solutions Inc., where she can be found when she is not teaming up for nonprofits.

Amanda Wong TeamWe are proud to have such a stellar player like Amanda as a part of our team. She has worked closely with Team Up’s Founder, Ryan Hodgson on our Gigs4Good program, bringing her hard-work to several previous events. We wanted you all to get to know Amanda, too — so, we caught up with her for a fun interview!

<TU> why do you team up?

<AW> from day one, i have been a fan of the cause & vision.  team up is also a great way to get involved with many local non profits and hear/learn about local bands.

<TU> what is your favorite part of working with the team?

<AW>  our team is one of kind.  everyone is super dedicated, happy, and fun to be around!

<TU> which G4G event was your favorite/most memorable?

<AW> i think the first G4G (Victor Shade & Friends) was probably most memorable for me.  not becuase it was the biggest, best or even the most organized; but because it was all of our hard work coming together and a vision coming to life.  it was pretty darn cool to see our logo’d gobo shining bright that night.

<TU> how do you make time for volunteering/donating/giving as a young professional?

<AW>  it’s a tricky balance and something i have struggled with quite a bit. but at the end of the day, if it’s important enough, you’ll find time.

<TU> who do you look to for inspiration/mentor?

<AW> oh, the list is pretty long…i feel really blessed to have wonderful people in my life, helping gently guide me through life.  one of my long time mentors is a woman by the name of Cheryl Chow (Ms chow, Auntie Cheryl, Coach Cheryl, etc..). she is an inspiration to all asian american women for sure! Whether it was through her day job with the Seattle Public School district or volunteering her countess hours to the local drill team and basketball league (SCAA), she’s always about bettering our youth for tomorrow. for more check out:

<TU> fun things you love to do in your freetime?

<AW>  i’m a TV junkie!  i will pretty much watch anything (i get sucked in very easily)!

<TU> what is one thing you do that is, “so Seattle”? coffee obsession, plaid shirt collection, tech infatuations, microbrews you adore, food trucks you follow….?

<AW>  i love food, that’s for sure.  I live on capitol hill so i’m lucky to have a TON of great food within walking distance.  a few favs….Lil’ Woody’s, Olivar, and Hong Kong Bistro.

<TU> what band are you currently loving?

<AW> i’m currently listening to Fly Moon Royalty & Frank Ocean.
