Team Up Music Monday – The Lonely Forest

Time to kickstart your Monday with a couple tunes from Anacortes, WA indie darlings, The Lonely Forest.

Happy Monday!

Team Up Partner Highlight: pod4print

Team Up for Nonprofits wouldn’t be able to bring you the awesome music and important causes without the support of our partners. For three years, we’ve been working with pod4print, a full-service printing company in Beaverton, to help us with posters and marketing.

“We jumped at the chance,” said Josh Dannenman, account executive at pod4print. Josh heard about Team Up for Nonprofits and Gigs4Good through a friend. “We heard they were doing this cool thing and were in need of some assistance.”

Beyond printing and supporting nonprofits, pod4print provides business solutions such as manufacturing, warehousing, and full mailing services. Their online ordering template puts the customer in control of their own product, so there are no surprises and no gimmicks. Just straight up, high-quality products. Check out their website, pod4print.com, for more information.

“Ryan Hodgson is a great guy and a blast to work with,” says Josh. “It is our pleasure to do what we can to support a great cause.”

Thank you for all the great posters gang!

We’ve made it easy for you with a playlist that includes tunes from Ivan and Alyosha, Yuni in Taxco and Kevin Long. You can check out the playlist on YouTube or pick and choose below.

Happy Monday and if by chance you haven’t had a chance to snag a ticket to the upcoming show, be sure to do so as well as join our Facebook event to help spread the word!

New #Gigs4Good Event Set for April 12!

We’re thrilled to announce that Gigs4Good #11 will benefit wonderful local nonprofit Seattle Works and will feature rising stars Ivan and Alyosha, Yuni In Taxco and Kevin Long.  Please join us at The Hard Rock Café on Thursday April 12.

The event will raise vital funds for Seattle Works, a local organization that connects volunteers, develops emerging leaders and inspires dialogue. Funds raised through this Gigs4Good benefit will support Seattle Works Day, an event that engages over a thousand volunteers in one day to dig in at parks, schools and community spaces all over the city. Groups of coworkers, friends, professional groups, social organizations and more join together for this awesome day of teambuilding and impact.

Show headliner Ivan and Alyosha’s soulful folk tunes suggest a band inspired, hopeful and longing; a band unafraid to probe their collective faith and doubts. Their track “Easy To Love” earned NPR Song of the Day honors as “a propulsive, sweetly booming ode to love as a feat of endurance.”  We at Team Up are not the only fans of this band, Brandi Carlile has had the boys open for her on multiple occasions.

Yuni in Taxco have been featured prominently on KEXP and have played a number of sold out shows in Seattle. Last summer saw them play every major music festival in the Seattle area including Capitol Hill Block Party, Bumbershoot, and City Arts Fest. Their 3rd album “Prizes” is due out in the Spring on Havaii Records.

Opening the show is Kevin Long, a 27 year old singer/songwriter originally from Spokane, WA. Heavily influenced by artists such as Neil Young, Elliott Smith and Nick Drake, simple song structures graced with intricate guitar picking, open tunings, and soft-spoken poignant lyrics make up his highly melodic, emotionally edgy tunes.

Be sure to snag your tickets today and help spread the word!

Seattle Works: Bridging the Gap for Volunteer Leaders

The following post originally appeared on Seattle Works’ blog. Check out the fantastic volunteer leadership program they run called The Bridge! Thanks to the program, we landed our fantastic Communications Committee chair, Kristen Grant. Check out her story below.

“I participated in The Bridge program in the Fall of 2011 and connected with a number of great organizations seeking new board members. No two boards are alike, and The Bridge prepared me to ask the right questions – of the nonprofits and of myself – while exploring opportunities for board service to find a great mutual fit.

I really connected with Team Up for Nonprofit’s mission to build capacity for nonprofit organizations by cultivating a new generation of engaged supporters through the power of music and social media. In addition to providing monetary support through the funds raised at Team Up’s Gigs4Good shows, Team Up helps each nonprofit build awareness with young audiences and develop a strong foundation for future outreach and engagement. I enjoy volunteering for a number of different types of nonprofits, from animal rescues to conservation organizations, so I especially appreciate the opportunity to support a variety of local nonprofits through my work with the Team Up board.

The board of directors is young and actively involved, and the passion of Ryan Hodgson, Team Up’s founder and president, for the organization and the local nonprofit community is consistently inspiring.  As the Communications Committee chair, I work with over a dozen volunteers who lend their skills to build excitement for each upcoming Gigs4Good show, outreach to music and nonprofit bloggers and engage our online following.  I look forward to helping this young and growing nonprofit continue to bring together Seattle’s music and nonprofit communities to support many deserving local nonprofits in 2012.”       -Kristen Grant
